The Differences With Other Games

There are not only numerous fundamental differences, but also stylistic differences that exist between roulette and other casino games. Roulette is not a game that moves along as rapidly as video poker, where you can literally play three or more rounds in a minute; it is not competitive among players, like table poker. It is not as confrontational as blackjack, where it's you against the dealer, not as complicated as craps, where there are many, many different wagers that require an explanation, and at the same time not as simplistic as keno, which may be the simplest casino game.

The legacy of roulette is that it is, and always has been, for the more "sophisticated" crowd; associated with plush casino surroundings, mean in formal wear, women bearing expensive jewels. The perception is that it is not the favored pastime of the beer crowd. Of course, this image is somewhat overblown. The reality is that roulette is a game that is accessible to everyone. But the imagery is such that it does not really rank with the most popular table games - blackjack, craps, or poker - at least in the United States. Roulette is probably more popular in Europe than America. But a lot of people like to play it on the internet.

Perhaps one of the other reasons for that involves the actual apparatus by which the game is played, which is in fact different in Europe. The distinction that is made between European roulette and its American counterpart is that the American version uses both a zero (0) and a double zero (00) on its wheel, while in Europe only the zero is used. The full effect of this difference is something that we will explore in future installments. Suffice it to say, though, that the game appears more advantageous to the player in its European form. Fortunately for people who participate in the roulette game online, both the European and American versions of roulette are offered by many casinos.
