Laying It Out - Red And Black, Odd And Even

The numbers are laid out on the roulette table in 12 rows of three or three columns of 12 numbers, depending on which way you want to look at it. They're in squares, and the numbers are in ovals that are either red or black in color. This is the way you'll see it both in the brick and mortar atmosphere and in the online casino as well. There's really no pattern to the colors relative to the numbers; in other words, the odd numbers are not all red, and the even numbers are not all black.

The numbers, according to color, are as follows:

Red -- 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 18, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 30, 32, 34, 36
Black -- 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 29, 31, 33, 35

The breakdown for Red is ten odd numbers and eight even numbers.

The breakdown for Black is ten even numbers and eight odd numbers.

Note the difference.

Above the grid where the numbers 1 through 36 are distributed in three columns are two pentagonal spaces, in which zero (0) and double zero (00) are contained. As we already know, the double zero is present in the American version of the game, while it is not present in the European version.

Below each of the columns is a small rectangular space that says "2 to 1' inside it. This is where "column bets" are placed.

That's the layout - and that's just the beginning!
