Chips, And Playing At Your Pace
If you mosey on into a land-based casino and play roulette, you'd be betting with rather innocuous chips, which really look nothing like the customers are playing in other parts of the casino.
These chips come in a variety of different colors - they are essentially assigned to different players, in order to distinguish the players from each other. After the player is finished at the roulette table, the roulette-specific chips are handed over in exchange for regular casino chips, which the player can then take to the cashier and cash out, or go somewhere else in the casino and play with.
All the chips are not worth the same. The value of the individual chips differs, of course, according to what the minimum bet levels are.
In the game as it is played online, as would be expected, the dynamic is a little different than that.
In a brick and mortar casino, roulette moves slowly enough - you can place your bets all the way up to the point where the dealer says "No more bets." The beauty of playing online is that you can pretty much set your own pace - if you want to play slower, you can do that. What this does is reduce the potential degree of intimidation that the player can experience in the game, which is of particular concern to the beginner. Of course, you may already be a hotshot; indeed, if you want to play much faster than you would in a physical casino, you can do that too.
